"The Artistic Intent, Intact"

This TAD strap line says everything you need to know about the listening experience. Masses of detail and precision for sure, but with passion and emotion in equal measure too, creating a truly rewarding sound.

About the Evolution One TX

From the top, the Evolution One comprises the TAD Coherent Source Transducer (CST), in which a tweeter is mated to a midrange driver in a coaxial arrangement. The CST comprises a 2.5cm beryllium-dome tweeter at the center of the magnesium cone of a 9cm midrange driver, the CST itself mounted in a shallow waveguide. These coaxial drivers together reproduce everything above 420Hz; below that frequency, the CST hands off to two 16cm woofers. These two drivers (as opposed to the single driver used in the Evolution Micro) are responsible for the extra bass extension of this design. Of particular interest here is the side-mounted sloted bass ports that effectively control turbulence and standing waves in the loading system when the speakers are delivering strong bass.

Then there is the outstanding level of attention to detail in the design and build of the drivers and cabinets. The speakers are not excessively heavy, in typical high-end stakes, but the careful design of shapes and bracing internally really controls cabinet resonance. And those drivers, built with the precision that TAD is famous for, are clean and precise with vanishingly low colouration. The whole combination really is an epic treat in terms of transparecy, imagery and tonality. The music just shines right through with no real effect of the speakers getting in the way at all.

Tech Insight

The unique Slit-shaped ports of the E1TX are positioned low and near the floor for standing wave leakage reduction and natural bass reproduction, and exist both the left and right sides with circular shaped flared openings to the front and rear of the enclosure.
This symmetrical front-back, left-right layout combined with the low, offset slot location eliminates unwanted sound from the port and reduces standing waves within the enclosure.

Matching & Setup

The E1TX’s specified frequency range is 29Hz-60kHz so dispite the relatively modest proportions of this three-way floor stander, it should be treated as a full-range transducer. The bang-on average sensitivity figure, combined with it's 4 Ohm impedance means that this speaker would not be a good match for small amplifiers – a good solid-state of 60W plus, or a strong valve amp of say 40W with 4 Ohm output taps is a sensible minimum.

Good room positioning really pays off with these, creating a seamless top-to-bottom integration and incredible transparency and imaging.
