A Unique Combination of Talents

Revival Audio is all about a blend of classic and modern. Beautifully crafted cabinets and a seemingly conventional design hide incredibly well developed drivers and an innovative approach to the problem of internal acoustic pollution.

About The SPRINT 4

SPRINT 4 is a reflex-loaded, two-and-a-half-way floorstanding speaker of slim design. It is equipped with the in-house designed 28mm soft-dome tweeter, with its built-in ARID (Anti Reflection Inner Dome) technology and specialized back-chamber design that significanly lowers rear energy intermodulation and standing waves. And two of Revival Audio's BSC (Basalt Sandwich Construction) 18cm woofers, delivering the best balance between rigidity, low-weight and damping.

The SPRINT 4 employs a similar cabinet design philosophy to the Sprint 3 – standard cabinet materials and constructio  to keep costs down, enhaned by the use of Revival's 'Elytron' front baffle – a design born from hundreds of hours of painstaking simulation that provids a smooth waveguide effect and minimises defraction.

The SPRINT 4 employs two of the 18cm Revival woofers in a 2.5-way design that delivers the same spacious presentation of the SPRINT 3 but adds an extended bottom-end and more power handling for larger rooms. These speakers really shine when partnered with stronger amplification, so a good mid-range system with say 60W plus of amplification is going to fill a large room with a solid, wide and deep presentation full of propulsive drive and fine detail. Indeed, in this context, we recon the SPRINT 4 is hard to beat at the pirice.

Tech Insight

The unique front baffle, called Elytron, has been software moddeled for directivity control and diffraction optimization. The curves around the tweeter improve high frequency directivity by acting as a waveguide. The rest of the curved surfaces reduce defraction from the face of the cabinet for more prcecice imaging and better harmonic tonality.

Matching & Setup

The SPRINT 4 is an eligant floorsatnder that employs two mid/bass drivers and one tweeter in a 2.5-way design. The crossover sends bass to both woofers but rolls off the mids at 1.6kHz to the lower woofer, and 2.2kHz to the upper woofer. This provides a much larger driving area for bass and lower mids, but upper mids come from the top woofer only, enabling seamless transition to the tweeter frequencies. This speaker's 89dB sensitivity is considered around average but the 4 Ohm impedance should be noted as that might not best match solid state amps below about 30 Watts. With more power though, say around 100-150 Watts, these speakers really shine. A good 30 Watt valve amp with output taps set to 4 Ohms is also  an excellent match.

These speakers are best in medium to large rooms where they can be allowed to really brethe – creating substantial presence with great width and depth of sound. They are not overly location sensitive but careful positioning is rewarded with pinpoint imaging.
