"The Artistic Intent, Intact"

This TAD strap line says everything you need to know about the listening experience. Masses of detail and precision for sure, but with passion and emotion in equal measure too, creating a truly rewarding sound.

About the Evolution Two

The Evolution Two is, in many ways, at a sweetspot of performance verses price. The main changes to the design compared to the evolution one say, are the use of the TAD beryllium tweeter mounted in a fixed aluminium waveguide rather than the two-way coaxial mid/tweeter array, a more conventional cabinet construction and finish, and a single slotted loading solution at the bottom of the cabinet rather than the double side-mounted slots of the more complex designs.

And it's a two-and-a half-way design. So two of the 15.5cm TAD MACC (Multi-layered Aramid Composite Cone) drivers are used with the lower one rolling off at 90Hz, and the upper one carrying on up to 2.8KHz to deliver the mid-range. The result is of course a seamless full-range sound capable of great bass and dynamic contrast. The same fundamental port loading philosophy is applied at the bottom of the cabinet

Tech Insight

Whilst the Evolution Two speaker is one of the more affordable designs from the TAD range, it is still heavily loaded with many important technical features. One clever aspect is how TAD have employed their slotted bass loading system in a simpler configuration exiting at the bottom of the speaker (rather than both side panels on the more expensive designs). Critically though, in this 2.5 way design, this loading technique delivers the same brilliantly controlled lower bass sound that shows up lesser port loading techniques to be clearly 'pitchy and chuffy' in comparison.

Matching & Setup

With an average sensitivity and slightly low impedance these speakers are not a difficult load, but probably very low-power amplifiers will not be a good match here. Indeed, these speakers gain a real sense of authority with stronger amplification, and that is part of their value as they are pretty much full range, capable of great dynamic scale, and very transparent. And high quality components upstream are important too, as is system architecture with good mains and supports. Add careful room setup and positioning into the mix and the Evolution Two will deliver astonishing results for the price. Highly recommended.
